This time we would like to introduce you to some fantastic winter phenomena that can only be seen during the bitterly cold season.
Please enjoy this phenomenon unique to Lake Akan, where the temperature can drop to as low as -30℃.
Splashing ice
When the cold season arrives, "splashing ice" that can be called an art of nature can be seen along the lakeshore.
The water spray from the lake freezes onto the trees and rocks on the shore, and they grow little by little, often forming beautiful shapes that look like ice sculptures, and are a delight to those who see them.
When it first grows, the highly transparent ice looks like glasswork and is very beautiful.
Also, at this time of year, the lake freezes and cracks repeatedly, so you can hear the soft, soothing sound of crackling ice crashing against the lake's shore, like the sound of glass colliding.
Ice bubbles
"Ice bubbles" are created when air bubbles are trapped in the ice on a frozen lake, and by layering these bubbles, they create an art piece that looks like it's being sucked in.
The best chance to see beautiful ice bubbles is when the lake surface begins to freeze, before the snow accumulates.
*The shore of Lake Akan is full of hot water pots and there is a risk of falling into the lake, so we strongly recommend joining a guided tour to enjoy the experience.
Frost Flower
It is said that the "Frost Flower'' can be seen when three conditions are met: ``below -15℃, no wind, and ice with little snow on it.
As the name suggests, it creates a scenery that looks like flowers suddenly blooming on the ice.
A miraculous winter flower garden that can only be seen on quiet frosty mornings.
Beautiful and delicate frost flowers that fall down when the wind blows are like a dream.

Rime ice
The freezing air freezes the trees that have lost their leaves, creating a fantastical world.
As you walk through the forest surrounded by a world of silverwhite, you will feel as if you have wandered into a fantasy world.
The contrast with the blue sky seen through the frosty woods will also give you a sense of the crisp winter air.
What did you think?
It is quite rare in Japan to find a region where the temperature gets this low.
