Exciting off road cycling inside the deep Akan forest!

The Lake Akan area offers a bicycle rental service, which we will share more detailed information below in the post! You can even rent an e-bike with electric power assist! You can easily climb up tough slopes with the e-bikes even in the hilly Lake Akan area! Some bicycles are used for off-road riding, so if you want to ride through the deep forest of Akan, here are some courses we highly recommend!

Ride your bicycle about a few minutes from the Akanko Onsen Hot Spring Resort area. The "Furebetsu Forest Road" diagonally across from a gas station is a thrilling off-road course! (The "Gateway to mount meakan" sign marks the entrance to the forest road.) )This forest road actually connects to the trailhead of the Akankohan Course for climbing Mt. Meakan which we introduced in our last article! Not only cyclists but also climbers love this road a lot. And even in the middle of summer, it is still very cool after you enter the forest.

The cycling course introduced here is a route from the Akanko Onsen Hot Spring Resort to Mt. Hakuto Observatory via the Furebetsu Forest Road. (17 km round trip, takes about 1 ~ 1.5 hours)
Although the course is not long, it offers quite a thrilling experience, especially on the way down, as there are slopes with considerable height differences! The forest is also home to wild animals such as red foxes and Ezo deer. The sensation of visiting their homes is another special and interesting experience!

Our destination is Mt. Hakuto Observatory, which offers a panoramic view of Lake Akan and Mt. Oakan! The view may not be as stunning as the summit of Mt. Meakan, but if you want to enjoy the scenery of Lake Akan in less time, this is the place to go!

Relax pedaling at the hot spring town!

If you love on-road riding, enjoy a relaxing cycling ride at Lake Akan Onsen Town! There are several places where you can cycle along the lake. In particular, the best place is near the Iozan River on the west side of the town, where you can see the whole view of Mt. Oakan directly in front of you on a clear day!

In Lake Akan, there are monuments and buildings with Ainu patterns and wood carvings in many places, so you can learn about their ancient skills while riding a bicycle.

Lake Akan is a very famous hot spring in Hokkaido, and there are many footbaths and handbaths available in town! When you are tired from your bike ride, take a break and soak in a hot spring!

Now, we have introduced you to the thrilling experience of cycling! Next time, we will take you on a forest walk where you can enjoy the untouched nature of Akan with all your senses! Stay tuned and check out our newest stories!
