What can you find in KUSHIRO?
The city of Kushiro stands by the ocean, and therefore you can find delicious foods, including fresh seafood. The city is known for "Robatayaki (Japanese style BBQ), and you can grill ingredients yourself or have it cooked by a professional at restraunts.
There is also the Kushiro Shitsugen National Park, where you can enjoy wildlife such as the red-crowned crane, which is a national special natural monument, and the majestic surrounding natural environment of the Kushiro river and wetland.
It is also known as one of the world's top three sunset towns, and many tourists enjoy the beautiful sunset from Nusamai Bridge, which is located around the center of the city.
KUSHIRO CITY 1 DAY COURSE
We are introducing a 1-day model course expecting to leave from lake Akan.
Akanko onsen---Onnenai walking trail---Nusamai Bridge---Ganpeki Robata
Onnenai Wooden Promenade
"Kushiro Shitsugen National Park" covers an area of 28,788 ha, which is large enough to cover the center of Tokyo.
Therefore, the scenery changes greatly depending on where you are, so please try to find your favorite spot!
Check out several observatory on the map on the top page.
There are many ways to enjoy the wetlands, but this time we would like to introduce you to the "Onnenai wooden promenade", where you can walk through the wetlands!
It is a spot where you can see the flat landscape without any obstructions.
You can see the widely open sky and feel the Hokkaido-ness.
There is also the Onnenai Visitor Center at the entrance of the promenade, where you can learn about the origins of the wetlands and the flora and fauna that can be seen on the promenade.
The wooden path is wide enough, so you can walk with peace of mind!
The course is a barrier-free wooden path that even wheelchairs can enter, and takes about 40 minutes to make one lap.
Another big course is about 1 hour per lap (non barrier-free).
Please enjoy it according to your own pace and what you want to see!
Nusamai Bridge
Kushiro is known as one of the world's three best sunsets.
The city of Kushiro is proud of its beautiful sunsets, so much so that even the KUSHIRO monument uses a sunset motif.
The recommended spot to see such a sunset is "Nusamai Bridge"
It is located right next to "Kushiro Fisherman's Wharf MOO" and the downtown area, making it a place where tourists can walk by.
One of the highlights is the bronze statue of a maiden with the four seasons as a motif on the bridge.
Artist is different for each monuments, and the strength and toughness of the people living in the northern country are being expressed.
Watching the sun go down from the bridge is also a time to take a deep breath and keep yourself away from the busy days.
The time when the sun sets changes depending on the seasons, so be sure to check the sunset time before visiting!
Robatayaki
In Kushiro City, which is also known as the birthplace of "Robatayaki(Japanese style BBQ), there are many restaurants where you can eat fresh seafood and vegetables grilled on the spot.
Near Nusamai Bridge, there is a robatayaki spot called “Ganpeki Robata,” where you can enjoy grilling your own food.
Here, by purchasing tickets at the entrance, you can exchange it for vegetables, seafood, and drinks at each store inside.
And since you can grill the ingredients you get yourself on the robata, it is recommended that you enjoy it with your favorite doneness!
Please spend a delicious and enjoyable time grilling whatever you like, such as seasonal fish and vegetables.
For those who are a little worried about grilling themselves, we recommend restraunts where a professional will grill them for you!
Depending on the restaurants, there are places where you can watch the professional cooking right in front of you.
Let's wait for the food to be perfectly grilled!
How was Kushiro City, where you can enjoy delicious foods and magnificent nature?
Even in the same city of Kushiro, the sights are completely different between Lake Akan and the city.
We would be very happy if you enjoy both as you came all the way up here!
Next posts, we will introduce the Ashoro area, which is the opposite direction from Kushiro.
Stay tuned!
