Enjoy the best red leaves sceneries! (#1 Lake Onneto)
Temperatures across Japan are gradually dropping and cooler days are becoming more and more common in late September!
However, in the lake Akan area where "Kamuy Lumina" is held, we better say it is cold here!
Daytime temperatures often drop below 20 degrees, and at night and early time in the morning it often drops to 4-5 degrees!
Amazing Hokkaido! Autumn arrives the earliest in Japan.
"Red leaves" are always one of the most popular features in Japan during fall.
With Hokkaido’s magnificent nature and spectacular scenery, you can tell that it is a paradise for enjoying the stunning sceneries of red leaves.
This week, we would like to introduce you to some of the best places to walk around the Lake Akan area to see the red leaves!
First, we will introduce lake Onneto, which is located near Lake Akan.
If you are a photography enthusiast, be sure to check it out!
Chill and enjoy the silent scenery of red leaves in a “no signal lake”!
For those Hokkaido’s traveling experts, you may think that the most popular lakes in east Hokkaido are "Lake Akan," "Lake Mashu," and "Lake Kussharo".
In fact, there is another perfect lake called lake Onneto.
Only a 20 minutes drive from lake Akan, you can enjoy stunning nature sceneries in a quiet lake.
Several viewing spaces are available along the lakeside of Onneto, where not only tourists but also locals often come to take some amazing photos.
On a clear and windless day, everyone here can enjoy the beautiful reflections of the volcano and the lake!
It is just like the Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia, a fantastic view unfolds before your eyes.
If you look closely at the mountain in front of you, do you see smoke rising from the peak?
This mountain is called Mt. Meakan, a favorite mountain to hike among climbers!
The view of the volcano’s summit and the reddening foothills is truly inspiring!
Unlike the other places in Japan, the color of leaves in Hokkaido is diverse to golden yellow, orange and red besides only having one single red color.
The reason for this is the abundance of broadleaf trees.
In particular, the area around Akan has a wide range of broadleaf trees, such as Sakhalin spruce, Yezo spruce, and Sakhalin fir, which make the forests more colorful in every fall.
Lake Onneto is an area with no signal.
How about taking a break from your smartphone and computer once in a while to enjoy the quiet scenery and the sounds of nature?
"No signal" and "do not need to think about anything" may be the best reasons for visiting Lake Onneto.
In our next episode, we would like to introduce the stunning red leaves sightseeing spots in Teshikaga Town, a neighboring town to the Lake Akan area. Stay tuned!
