Walking in the winter forest
#3Winter signs found along the lakeshore
Today, along Lake Akan, where temperatures are reaching below 0 degrees celcius, it's beginning to look a lot more like winter.
The days are quiet and peaceful as it is not the high season of the area. Mt. Akan, which stands on the west side of Lake Akan, is covered in snow and appears to be well into winter.

Please enjoy this phenomenon unique to Lake Akan, where the temperature can drop to as low as -30℃.
With winter just around the corner, we would like to introduce you to a unique way to enjoy walking through the forest on the Bokke walking trail, which we have introduced several times on this webpage.

Enjoy walking through the forest while feeling the changes in the air from autumn to winter in nature using your senses.
Winter signs found along the lakeshore
The Bokke walking trail faces Lake Akan, and if you enter the forest from the entrance by the boat pier, you will start walking along the lakeside.
The sound of water lapping along the lakeshore will soothe your soul.
Also, when you walk on a sunny day, you can see the lake sparkling between the woods, which is dazzling and beautiful.
The quality of the reflection changes depending on the time of day, so be sure to find your favorite time for a walk.
The highlight of the lake shore at this time of year is, of course, the splashing ice. Due to the gradual cooling of the air and water temperature, water droplets on the plants on the lakeshore gradually freeze, and the ice grow by being covered with the trapped water.
When I walked through the forest the other day, there were artistically shaped ice all over the place.
If you place it in a sunny side, it tends to melt during the day, so if you look for a shady place, you can often find it. Because it depends on the temperature, you will never see the same shape twice, so please enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime encounter.
As the water temperature begins to drop, the entire lake gradually freezes, starting from the edges.
In normal years, Lake Akan would be completely frozen over in January, but this year it has been especially warm, and the people of the town are concerned about future changes to the lake.
I can't wait to enjoy winter activities on the ice, such as smelt fishing and snowmobiling.
